Frequently asked questions

Which specific muscles does the seated palms-down wrist curl target?

This exercise isolates the forearm extensors located on the top of the forearm. It is effective for building grip stability and balanced forearm muscularity.

What is the most common form mistake to avoid during this movement?

Avoid using momentum or lifting the forearms off your thighs. Keep your arms stationary and move only at the wrist joint to ensure the extensors do the work.

How should I position my arms for maximum stability?

Rest your forearms flat on your thighs with your wrists hanging just past your knees. This provides a stable base and allows for a full range of motion during the extension.

What is a good starting rep range for forearm extensor training?

Perform 3 sets of 12 to 20 repetitions. The extensors respond well to higher volume and controlled eccentric phases rather than maximal heavy loading.

How can a beginner progress if the movement feels awkward?

Start with very light dumbbells or a PVC pipe to master the mind-muscle connection. Focus on a slow tempo and a full squeeze at the top of the contraction.

  • Burnout finisher: 2 sets × 15-20 reps, 45s rest. RPE 9, last set to failure.
